Hi! My name is Liz Matherly and I am a junior at UNCW majoring in Elementary Eduction and minoring in Psychology.
I am from a little town about 3 1/2 hours north of here, Reidsville, and I love it there! I love the feel you get from a small town where it is hard to go somewhere and not see someone you know. Family and friends are my world, I would not be the person I am today if not for them. My family and I have had lots of opportunities to travel and I am so grateful for them. Traveling is my absolute favorite thing to do! Since my sophomore year of high school I have been to seven foreign countries and have made so many incredible memories. I have stood where the gladiators stood thousands of years ago in the Roman Colosseum and have made a guard at Buckingham Palace laugh. I hope to be able to travel for the rest of my life! In my free time you will probably find me on the beach or out and about with my friends. I love the color pink, fuzzy socks, chocolate, kittens, and country music. If there is one thing everyone knows about me it is that I have an extreme love for Carrie Underwood (Yes, that's her wax figure above... no shame) She's just perfect to me! :) In my free time you will probably find me somewhere in the sunshine, or out and about with my friends, they're the best!
After graduation I want to teach locally for a while (kindergarten through second are my favorite grades!) but eventually I would love to go teach in an underdeveloped country, because I fully believe everyone should have good educational opportunities. So to get a taste of that I am hoping to travel to Malawi next summer with Watson College of Education and am so excited for that opportunity! I love everything about UNCW but my favorite tradition has got to be Beach Blast! It is a day where thousands of students come out together to have a giant party on the beach and let loose before classes start, and it is a blast!
I have the awesome opportunity of being a Seahawk Link for the second year in a row and I am so excited for all that that will bring! If you are one of my freshmen and are reading this, Hi! I hope you are having a great time here so far! A piece of advice that I would give to you is to get involved! College can be a scary place and getting involved is the best way to be known by the faculty here and to make life long friends, trust me, you won't regret it! If you ever need anything do not hesitate to contact me, here's my information!
